Talk 1: God the Creator
- Paradise isn't what's pleasing to us, but what is pleasing to God.
- "We" are not the point
- Genesis is not intended to be ammunition for debates about creation
- The point of Genesis is to establish God as the almighty creator, to establish his character
- Does my life please Him? Instead of.. How can God please my life?
- We are made in God's image
- Our purpose in life is to bring glory to Him, not to ourselves
- It's stupid to think "I have done this and that.. look how great I am"
- We were created by God. He is the source of all life. He alone is to be praised.
- There is nothing special about us. We are only special because God made us special.
- An evil desire is often a good desire perverted
- God brought order and control into the world. As bearers of His image, we are to continue to do this.
- It's so sad to buy the lie that our glory lies in our external appearance. Our glory is in being created in the image of God
- Live to glorify Him alone.
- Are you following Jesus' example?
- Adam and Eve didn't trust God, they wanted to be equal. Sin entered the world. We are no different to them.
- they were thrown out of God's Paradise because they were now tainted by sin. The unholy could not be with the holy.
- their relationship (between man and woman) broke down. There was bickering, they blamed each other.
- Paradise is lost. Things aren't the way they should be. Things aren't right because of sin.
- Will we ever find Paradise again? If not for Jesus we'd be without any hope.
- God is disgusted by our rotten spirit. He is grieved by our sinfulness.
- Sin matters. It's a big deal. God wipes out his creation because of it.
- But God provides a way out for Noah.
- God will punish evil in every form. How confident can we be?
- Like firefighters caught in a bushfire.. we are only safe because we are standing on ground that has already been burnt. Jesus takes the punishment for us.
- God's kingdom can't be established in the fullest until all sin is destroyed
- we should be like Abram, living out his faith in the midst of the evil of Babylon
- We have the promise of Heaven. Trust that Paradise will one day be restored and live in light of that.
- We are secure because of the death of Jesus. That is our confidence, not because of anything we've done.
- God will live with us, and wipe the very tears from our eyes. There will be no more death, nor more mourning, no more crying, no more pain.
- Remember... this is not our home
- Remember... that God is above all
- Remember... that nothing in this world will last
- Remember... there's more to life than the way we look, the clothes we wear, and the things we own
- Remember... we are different because this is not our home.

Creation's revealing your majesty
From the colors of Fall
To the fragrance of Spring
Ev'ry creature unique
And the song that it sings
All exclaiming
Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky
And you know them by name
You are amazing God
All powerful, untamable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees
As we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God!
Who has told ev'ry lightning bolt
Where it should go
Or seen heavenly storehouses
Laden with snow
Who imagined the sun
And gives source to its light
Yet conceals it to bring us
The coolness of night
None can fathom
Indescribable, uncontainable,
